Grade 1 Worksheets
Preschool Themes are a fun learning technique we can use when teaching children about certain subjects that have too much of information to take in all at once. Preschool Themes can be planned out for the duration of, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 1 week, a few days, or as long you think is needed for teaching.
When dealing with preschool children we may have a desire to try and teach them all the details about something, thinking that if they hear about it now, they will be that much further ahead later on in elementary school.
The truth is that when we are teaching preschool aged children, we don’t want to overwhelm them with unnecessary deep facts. This is because children and preschoolers won’t retain information that is just thrown at them amongst other details they are told they need to know.
When it comes to preschoolers, keep it simple. Teach them the basics that are easy to understand and fun to learn. Children will learn the deeper facts when they get to elementary school and they will be further ahead in the sense that they know the basics, so the new information will be interesting, more age appropriate, and easier to retain. They can add this new information with the basics that you have taught them and they will really flourish.
At one time or another we have all come to or will come to a dead end in thinking of new ideas and themes for the preschoolers in your classroom. Don’t panic! There is a simple fun way to come up with new ideas and theme ideas that your Pre K class will be 100% interested in.
How To Come Up With New School Themes & Theme Ideas:
-observe children while they are playing
-listen to what they are talking about and write down key points you hear on paper
-at the end of a week look over your notes
-what were the children talking about? Dinosaurs, a party, were they having fun playing house?
-use a topic from your notes and turn it into a theme for your class
-find simple facts, coloring sheets, songs, books for the library, pictures, toys, art ideas, and more that are related to that theme and you will find the children enjoying themselves and being totally involved in a topic that they were interested in.
