Camping Theme
How would you do a preschool camping theme for kids while teaching at home or in the preschool classroom?
If the preschool children or kindergarten children are interested in camping and outdoorsy things like that then we would plan activities such as:
What kinds of bugs would you find on a camping trip:
Find books about camping and outdoor forests and learn about the bugs you would find in the forest.
Learn about campfires and how to be safe with them:
What kinds of things can we use a campfire for? (i.e. stay warm, tell stories, sing songs, cook things, roasting marshmallows etc.)
What do we sleep in when we go camping?
Sleeping bags, tents, trailers, campers, motor homes etc.
Other Preschool Camping Theme Questions:
What activities/sports can we do when we are camping? What sorts of foods can we eat? What noises can we hear?
You can set up a dramatic play area and have a medium size child's tent set up with all sorts of toy camping materials inside.
For preschool art you could have the children collect outdoor things like sticks, leaves, grass, small pebbles nut shells, and have them do ther own art with that (add glue, markers, paper, etc.)
For math activities you could find some plastic bugs and do a couting activity.
For science activities you could have a bug kit with fake bugs and magnifying glasses that the children can explore (can be found at educations stores, dollar stores or department stores)
Get a CD with campfire songs and pretend to camp out for a different circle time activity:
Get some brown construction paper and roll it into logs. Rip up some red, orange and yellow paper and glue it to the logs. Put it in the middle of the carpet. Sit around the campfire and sing campfire songs.
You can also bring in sticks from outside and pretend to roast marshmallows on it. Then for a fun treat after the campfire circle, you can actually give them a marshmallow to eat. That's a great social activity.
Have a scavenger hunt outside where you hide items we would use to go camping with, that would be a great physical activity as it gets the children running to explore and find.
Have books in the library on camping that are age appropriate like picture books and small sentence books for the preschool children to read and look at.
You could even have camping coloring pictures set out with crayons as an extra activity.
I hope I have helped give you some ideas of how you can implement a preschool camping theme into your learning theme for kids.
