The air around our earth is always moving. When the air is moving, we can feel it and see the trees move and leaves blow around. Cold air and warm air are always moving. This is called wind.
What can you see blowing in the wind? Have children say what they can see and document on paper.
(Example: trees, flags, etc.)
When the air is hot from the sun and heat, it rises because it is lighter.
When the air is cold it falls down because it is heavier.
Birds and bugs use wind to help them fly through the air and the sky. Mother Nature uses wind to plant new seeds by carrying them through the air using wind.
When cold air and warm air meet together; this can cause bad storms to start. Some bad storms caused by wind are tornadoes, hurricanes or bad thunder storms.
When strong wind is mixed with heavy snow, it creates a blizzard.
Wind can be strong or gentle.
We can feel wind, we can see what it moves, but we can not see the wind.
